The Posts joined the New South Wales Humanists Society in 1965 and for a time, Hans was president of its Illawarra branch and Lydia its treasurer. The family was involved in a number of organisations dealing with social welfare including the Workers' Education Association and the Family Planning Association.
Both Hans and Lydia questioned the established political system and were members of various alternate groups such as the Australian Party and the Referendum Movement of Australia.
