Illawarra Natural History Society collection

The Illawarra Natural History Society was formed in 1946 to further the study and preservation of the natural environment in the Illawarra. The society was instrumental in the establishment of nature reserves at Barren Grounds and on the Five Islands and advocated for the protection of the Illawarra Escarpment from development. The society met monthly and arranged regular excursions for members in the Illawarra and further afield. The society published a regular "Circular" which contained a variety of research and general information about the natural environment, as well as books and pamphlets on a variety of natural phenomena.
