An enigmatic force in the Australian art scene, Herbert ‘Bert’ Flugelman (1923-2013), was a truly skilled craftsman with an inquisitive mind, who constantly craved creation in all its forms.
Bert’s approach to his art practice reflected his contrary temperament; to question, to debate, to play. His artistic output was prolific, and although he experimented widely with materials, forms and themes, it is for the landmark public sculptures that he is best remembered.
This exhibition moves beyond these monumental public works, to explore the multi-faceted character of Bert and his constant evolution as an artist - the wry artificer.
