Pictorial record of the Royal visit to the city of Greater Wollongong

LtdDate11 February 1954DescriptionOn Thursday February 11th 1954, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited the city of Wollongong where 80,000 people gathered to welcome the reigning monarch. Footage includes the progress of the Royals through the streets of Wollongong in an open topped car, a portion of the welcome to The Queen on the steps of Wollongong Town Hall, outside the Returned Soldiers Memorial Hall on Church Street where 500 ex-servicemen formed a guard of honour and finally the Queen visiting the Wollongong Show Ground where 13,000 school children were waiting to see and hear Her Majesty. This special newsreel film was commissioned for production by Wollongong Theatres Pty Ltd, the owners of the local cinema circuit, to be screened in their cinemas as a community attraction.
