Holman describes the liberation of the Japanese camp where he spent three and a half years as a prisoner of war. On 15th September, Holman and his brother Jack leave the gates of the POW camp for the last time and are taken from Japan in an American carrier and reunited with family in Australia. The second part of this reminiscence manuscript includes stories told after the war, from Holman and from others, who like him saw some humour amongst the experiences that were endured. Holman acknowledges that some of the stories were personal and some hearsay. Within these final stories, Holman describes his work after the war. He was a staff member on the railways in a construction and demolition gang working on Central station.
