Song of the Sepik - Effects, Part 2

This reel contains the songs of the [Abulam ?] people of the Maprik subdistrict, a mountain people. This recording comprises ten cuts. 1. Sepik yodel -- 2. [?Shapping warrior] a women's working song. This is the song sung in the yam gardens to keep the pigs away. The first verse is sung by the women, the second by a collection of women, 8 year old boys and even babies -- 3. A cycle of three yam fertility songs. The wanyan cycle. The first verse is for voices only, the remaining verses have drone pipes as an accompaniment -- 4. The song sung when the yam harvest is complete -- 5. Song sung for completion of a new Haus Tambaran there will be a solo, a [hurang ?] and a chorus -- 6. Two songs from the song cycle [cal?] -- 7. Two songs from the song cycle for the Tambaran [?] -- 8. The giant [neligan ?] drone pipes which are an accompanying for the Wonyan song cycle but also the voice of the Tambaran himself -- 9. [Beera ?] the song sung when the boys have finished their initiation and are coming out of the Haus Tambaran to be met by their mothers -- 10.
