This follows the announcement that the ICI company plans to re-open a basalt quarry at the point. The chemical company will begin work soon on the construction of a jetty for the shipment of basalt to Sydney. As part of the project, the company has handed over 300 acres of land on Bass Point to establish a natural reserve. The area is a popular picnic and fishing spot.
