The Colliery was owned by the Australian Iron and Steel Collieries Ltd and fourteen men were killed as a result of the explosion. An inquiry under the provisions of the Coal Mines Regulation Act was conducted into the causes and circumstances of the explosion. The inquiry was conducted by Judge Goran and lasted from 24 September 1979 to 25 January 1980 at the Court of Coalmines Regulation, Wollongong.
