CreatorTrades and Labour Council of QueenslandDate1866-1970DescriptionA Board of Management for the Brisbane Trades and Labour Hall and Literary Institute was formed on 4 February 1889 replacing the existing Trades Hall Committee. The Board's objective was to secure a meeting place for trade unions within the city. A grant of land was secured and the foundation stone of the Trades Hall was laid on 4 April 1893. In 1922, the Trades Hall Council in Brisbane amalgamated with the Trades and labour Council of Queensland. The objectives of the Council were to protect and advance the interests of affiliated unions and to control industrial disputes.
