The entire house was burnt by the fire, leaving only a blackened shell remaining this morning.-- Making his first official visit to Wollongong the new Commissioner for Main Roads, Mr Thomas, arrived in style this afternoon. Mr Thomas arrive at 1:30 in the Department of Main Roads helicopter, which landed on the Old Port Road, near the inner harbour.-- At the Coniston Hotel, four members of the Australian Hotels Association presented local charities with cheques worth a total of $1,100. Outside Wollongong Town Hall and Council Chambers, a new bush fire engine was presented to Helensburgh fire brigade. Making history today in her own way in Wollongong was 21 year old Miss Pam Booth of Jamberoo, who has become Wollongong's first woman bank teller.-- City Council employees are the lowest paid tradesman on the South Coast. This was stated today by Trades and Labour Council president Mr Eric Ramsey. He was referring to delays in obtaining a new Award for council employees.-- The South Coast branch of the German Shepherd Dog League took over Dapto Showground for the annual interbranch obedience trials.-- It was back to school today for all Department schools. In Wollongong a Mount Keira girl took a visitor back to Wollongong High for the first day of the last term. The visitor was an18 year old girl from Japan.
